Oh! So Pretty

Hello all! Been a while since my last post (I've been lazy), but I've got some cool beauty products to share with you! I've tested all these products so I can tell you honestly that they are indeed, legit. So, let's get started!

My birthday was a few weeks ago and I received a super-cool offer from Sephora for a free product as a "gift." Of course you have to buy something else in order to get it, but damn it, I wanted that gift! Free! -Ish. Anyways, I ended up overspending (as I always do on the site) and got a fabulous makeup palette, a rich and creamy body butter, and some other sweet stuff! Now let's talk about quality.

The birthday gift was Philosophy's Vanilla Birthday Cake Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath cleanser. The 16oz. bottle sells for $16, but I got the 6oz bottle for free. I'm glad it was free. Although it seems to clean well - leaves no residue and makes my skin feel soft - the smell is certainly not birthday cake. It tries to be birthday cake...but it smells like an acne cleanser with sugar thrown in. Meh. Philosophy is a popular brand and their shower gel/shampoo/bubble bath combos were among the first products they ever put out (they really helped make this brand), so I was excited to try it. I've smelled some of their other "delicious" cleansers, but they never smell as good as their names make them sound. So not bad, but not good either.

Mine looked like the one on the right, sans the glow and confetti.

Paper Castle by Ginger Li

You know the giant paper castle I featured in my last post? Well, I found the creator! Or the photographer...I'm not sure. The point is I can put a name to this fantastic artwork and show you some additional photos to boot! The artist's name is Ginger Li and I found these wonderful pictures in her photostream - Ginger Garden - on Flickr.

Honestly...WTF?! Category: D.I.Y

So I've been obsessed with the D.I.Y section of Honestly...WTF?!, a fashion blog by designer Erica Chan Coffman and stylist Lauren Kolodny. Overall it's a fantastic site, but the D.I.Y. projects keep popping up all over the internet (pinterest, thefancy, other blogs, etc.), so they're pretty much inescapable. Not that I'm complaining! The tutorials are easy to follow and products are actually things you want to make and wear! I thought I'd share a few of my favorites with you - the ones that I desperately want to make (I just haven't had the chance to get to the craft store!). Check out the rest here.

BHLDN - Inspired is an Understatement

To know me is to know I love Urban Outfitters Inc., especially Anthropologie. So I am so excited to learn -and share with you- that Anthropologie is unveiling a new bridal line, BHLDN (pronounced "Beholden"), on Valentine's day 2011!!! Visit the website right now and you will be treated to the loveliest, detailed images of wedding attire and the pretty music box-like song "What are We Waiting For?" by Amiina.

The line of "wedding gowns, bridesmaid frocks, party dresses, assorted jewelry, headpieces, footwear, and lingerie" promises to be whimsical (possibly my FAVORITE adjective ever), creative, and vintage-inspired. Read the official press release here and follow them on Twitter here.

Product Pitch: Plumbing Pipe Candlesticks and Cocoon

Two products to show you: one DIY, both inventive uses of unusual materials (unusual in how they're used below, anyways).

Plumbing Pipe Candlesticks

Another awesome tutorial from Etsy.tv!!! Pretty self-explanatory.

Cocoon by MÃ¥ns Salomonsen

A storage unit for the modern kitchen with limited space, the Cocoon allows you to grow spices and herbs and store fruit without taking up and inch of counter space. Because it's made of clay, it absorbs water from the plant cultivation that cools the storage unit when it evaporates! I want one. Conceptually, it's smart, but almost as importantly: it looks cool!!! Visit Salomonsen's site to see more of his awesome projects! I particularly like the Pulseline, Bar table, and Upcycle!

Music Skirt: What a Clever Idea!

I found this project - a table skirt made from real, vintage sheet music - on apartment therapy, who found it on this neat blog Life in the Fun Lane. Go here for the tutorial!!!

Kewl.

Also, also!!! Jason Loper (the a.t. article's author) mentioned this amazing DIY project by this guy named Dave in which player piano music rolls were used as wallpaper! The results are stunning, as you can see:

Read the article, "Dave's Musical Wallpaper." And take a tour of Dave's Lakeview, Chicago, Illinois home.

Smilebooth

Okay, so you know how at weddings and parties they sometimes set up these little photobooths or backdrops for guests to take pictures showing how wonderful a time they're having at this get-together?

Well I have found the source for some of the most magical backdrops you can imagine! Smilebooth!
I've seen pictures of Smilebooth's work before - I just never knew it was a company! I always thought I was seeing pictures from personal parties of super-creative people. Now I know it's made by super-creative people for the personal parties of others! Haha.

I promise there is an explanation and more great pics ahead! Plus a poll about weddings at the end of this post! So...
